Dada found our piano when he called Music Connection out in Forest Lake. We were all set to buy a refurbished 5'10" Kawaii we had found at Carlson Piano World in Maple Grove, but Music Connection said they had a10 year old 6'4" Boston that was being offered at half off the original price because it was on consignment and the owner really wanted to sell it. We thought it was too good to be true but fate seemed to be on our side as we were heading up to relatively nearby Oakdale for a Filipino Christmas party.
And there she was - a beautiful piano for Katy!
When it was delivered, we were so happy, but quickly became very alarmed as it made huge thwacking twanging noises that sounded like the piano was about to explode!
After a few frantic calls and emails to the music shop, piano technician and our piano teacher, we were reassured to find out that this is "normal" [why do people never tell you about alarming normal things that are not normal to the ordinary person??] when pianos are moved as the strings settle and the settling process sounds alarmingly loud because of the 60,000 or 600,000 pounds of pressure the strings exert across the amplifying base platform!
So it was with some relief that we scheduled our tuning on Wednesday, three days before Katy's graduation recital, and the requisite 1-2 months after delivery to allow the strings to settle.
Caleb the piano tuner explained everything to us as we anxiously pestered him with questions about cleaning and maintenance and placement under windows and humidity etc
He was very patient with Katy too! We thought it would be a great experience for her to watch a piano be tuned so we picked her up early from school for the occasion.
When we left for our piano lesson, Katy thanked Caleb for tuning the piano and gave him a couple of Godiva truffle chocolates for his trouble.
