Katy and Olivia enjoyed their first charity bazaar! It was held at Parkview. We had a lovely big dimsum lunch with the Shaw twins and both sets of Olivia's grandparents. Then we had a quick look around the Bazaar. It was a very quick look because less than 50 metres in, the girls found a pottery painting booth, and insisted on having a go. I was quickly dispatched to find a Dad to babysit so the Mummies could actually go shopping. Dada was happy to help.
It was a beautiful warm but not too hot afternoon, and the kids loved the festive atmosphere, although they were a little slap happy with the "buy me this" and "buy me that". They loved their graph fairy floss though!
We were delighted to run into the Cavero Family, who were there promoting Deborah Cavero's new business importing jamon de bellota direct from Spain. The Cavero family were in Fr Lionel's bible study class, where Rick and I first met! (And Bert too!) We met Miriam Cavero's little girl, Lila, who is four! Wow what a blast from the past. Cavero Madre, Cecilia, had met Katy before, as a baby, but the hijas had never met her. And it was our first time to meet Lila too. These are the connections in Hong Kong that we will miss. It seems that the closer we get to our departure date, the stronger our ties are getting with neighbours and people who have for years been barely acquaintances, but with whom we are becoming much closer recently. It's a good reminder that it takes time to build worthwhile relationships, but that they will blossom with the right people over time.
We hope to be able to keep in touch with all our good friends in Hong Kong. The world is a lot smaller now of course, and most families in Hong Kong are used to lots of long haul travel.
Katy and Olivia will hopefully be friends for life - Debbie and I are very close, and John and Rick have become good friends just over the last year or so. Debbie calls me in wonder from time to time demanding to know if I know that our husbands are calling each other to chat, sometimes overseas!! One day, the Hills will move back to St Louis or somewhere stateside, and we will see each other more often. In the meantime, we hope to see them sometimes in the Summers in St Louis, Minnesota or France!
