The Lion Who Wanted To Love

Katy has spent the week at her first drama workshop.  Mama won the course with Faust as a prize from the Sassy Mama website - they wanted to know why we want our child to participate in the course.  I said "I would love our child, Katy, aged 5, to attend Faust Summer Camp, because she is a total drama queen who loves to warble and twirl and play make-believe and dress-up.  She also loves to make everyone laugh and is a concentrated beam of pure joy.  How wonderful to direct that energy into theatre!"

Katy has really loved her first week of drama!  The children invited parents and friends to come see their show on the last day of class.  So Mama, Dada, Poh Poh and Kung Kung elbowed our way through the throng of competitive parents and into front and second row seats.  Much to our surprise, Katy had the central role of Lia, the lion who wanted to love rather than eat the other animals. The kids had on great stage makeup and we didn't even recognise Katy at first!
First the children welcomed us with a Welcome Song.
Then the Show started.  Lia's lion Mummy is crossing her arms because Lia is playing with the other animals instead of hunting them.
Lia's Mummy and Daddy get mad at Lia, so Lia goes off on her own.
She meets a hurt antelope, but instead of hunting her, she nurses her back to health and cuddles her.
She also meets a crocodile who has something stuck in his teeth, so she helps get it out. Then she meets some baby elephants who give her a shower.
Then she meets two baby birds who are crying because they don't know how to fly.  So she tries to teach them...
...but they fall down and hurt their wings, so Lia calls the Monkey Doctor to come to bandage their wings up.
Finally, Lia rescues a leopard who has fallen into a river, but she ends up falling in herself.  So the leopard goes to find help, and all of the animals come to help pull her out of the river.
When Lia's Mummy and Daddy see all the animals helping Lia, they ask her to come home because they realise that her way is the right way.  The animals ask Lia to be the Queen of the Jungle.
And Lia gives everyone a hug.
Then the children sing a Goodbye song to close the show.  Katy takes a curtsey when everyone bows!
At the end of the show, the kids all get a certificate of participation.
 Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
Katy learnt that stage makeup is itchy, but rubbing it is not a good idea!
Kung Kung and Poh Poh brought Katy some carnations and Mama and Dada brought her roses.
Tia has had a busy week ferrying Katy to and from her daily Faust classes in Central all week.
Katy's teachers were very enthusiastic and encouraging for Katy to continue drama.  Her lead teacher was Catherine Marsden who called Katy Kitty because she is the little Kathryne.  Catherine was delighted that Katy speaks Tagalog fluently.
Hannah was another teacher, and she baptised Katy into the joys of cold cream to get off stage makeup.
And the third teacher for the group was Perveta.

We all had a giggle at the group photo - this is the most mangled that we've ever seen Katy's name!
