First Suzuki Grand Concert

Katy participated in her first Suzuki Grand Concert on Sunday, 3rd June.  The concert was held at the Jockey Club Auditorium in the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong, over in Hung Hom.  The Big Time!
Katy was one of a handful of piano students who played in the concert with about 100 violin, viola and cello students!

Although the pianos only played a small role in the overall Grand Concert (which focuses more on the strings), they were really very disciplined and played beautifully together with the strings.
Katy had to learn to play the Twinkle variations in D Major, so the pianos could play with the violins in the traditional Suzuki playdown, in which the students play pieces from the Suzuki books in descending order of difficulty.  So initially only a handful of the big kids play and slowly, the other kids join in, until the whole school, with the littlest kids, play the famous Suzuki Twinkle Variations together.  Katy loved doing it in D Major (the pianos learn it in C).  Her first performance with a black key!  In addition, Katy also played a duet of Mary Had a Little Lamb with Twinkie, and a quartet of Lightly Row with Sally, Emerson and Twinkie.

Miss Rebekah, Katy's piano teacher, was so proud of her pupils that day.
As were Mama and Dada.

It's really wonderful to see the kids performing, especially at this age.  Katy and her friends really get a kick out of it and they have no nerves or issues at all.  It's a great way to get her used to performing and public speaking, so she is more comfortable with it as she gets older.

Katy's favourite part of every performance is receiving flowers at the end!
