Rose fairy cake

Katy absolutely 100% loves it that we make her birthday cake every year.  Despite offers of the most gorgeous professionally made cakes, she steadfastly refuses to even contemplate it.  We love making her cakes too, but I must confess that it costs a lot more than buying an elaborate professional cake, it takes a lot of time, and it causes some tension in the house in the process...Mama and Dada both have sleepless nights worrying about the cake!!  And the resulting cakes are always very very handmade looking!  But still Katy insists that they are the most beautiful cakes in the world and this is what she wants.  I love that she is so loyal and sentimental, and that she appreciates all the love that goes into her cakes.

This year we almost bit off more than we could chew.  We wanted to make a cake modelled on a picture we saw on the Internet with a miniature fairy asleep inside a rose.  Dada spent a week perfecting the fairy figurine from sugar paste.  The cake was assembled only 15 minutes before the first guests arrived...

But the resulting cake was, at least in Katy's eyes, and therefore our eyes, the most beautiful rose fairy cake we had ever seen!
We love you Katy and we love making your cakes...even if it almost does us in every eyar!
