Leaning Cake of Pixie Hollow

After an experimental week of spills and thrills figuring out how to make our first tiered fondant cake, Dada arrived with the cake.

Bless her little heart, Katy loved the cake so much, all of its endearing home-made crookedness and all.
She loved helping to make it, ice it, cut out the fondant shapes for it, construct it, and decorate it. She loves that we made it together, that we, all of her family - Mama, Dada, Tia and Naan - were involved, that it was a labour of love and teamwork, and that it was designed for her. When I asked her if she would prefer a perfect store-bought creation like some of the magnificent specimens we had seen at other birthday parties (castles! turrets! sugar flowers!), she said no, she would always want a cake we make at home. It's a particularly beloved project of Dada's, albeit causing no small amount of planning and stress for Mama.

It is really really hard, actually impossible, to get a good photo of all the kids at Katy's birthday party!!! We tried singing...
cajoling...

joking...but as you can see above, no really great shot of them all as a group!

Finally, after all those photos, the kids got to dig into the cake. Katy found a quiet corner to get the job done.
After a week of waiting, we hope it tasted as good as she thought it would!
