Trick or Treat
Mama had overbooked us, so we rushed from Ellie's Halloween Party to meet the Chens at Headland Drive for Trick or Treat. We met the Chens at Singapore Airport and hit it off. They live in Shanghai and pass through Hong Kong a lot.
By this stage, Katy was a little bedraggled schizophrenic cat fairy...
A lot of people were worried about the Headland Drive trick of treat because it has been very crowded and gory the last couple of years. However, we were fortunate that it was quite relaxed, uncrowded, and not too scary or gory this year. What the kids loved the most was the whole trick or treat concept. Katy really got into it this year, just absolutely thrilled at the whole idea that people give you candy after you enthusiastically yell "Happy Halloween" and "Trick or Treat - Give me something good to eat" at them.

Katy and Isabella really loved this guy, who had this funny looking hanging ghoul thing that laughed. It made Katy jump a little bit, but because we were all laughing, and the guy was making fun of it, Katy and Isabella started giggling about it too.

Being DB, we met many friends and neighbours on our walk, including Jessie from 11A Seahorse.
And I found Katy happily posing in other people's Halloween photos!

Happy Halloween!
After a busy afternoon napping, carving pumpkins, frosting ghost cupcakes and getting dressed up, we rushed over to the Mendenhalls for a Halloween Party. All the kids looked really cute...especially little Alessio McEvoy, who was a gorgeous honey bear.
Dada and I were Vikings again, like at 4th of July, and Katy started off as a little black cat again, like last year. She loved having whiskers and a nose painted on her.
Ellie and Katy go to ballet and swimming together. She and her Mommy, Tiffany, were both dressed as Cinderella. Her Papa was Prince Charming. And her little brother Quinn was Peter Pan.
Dada loved horsing around with the kids.
Tiffany had the kids make ghost lollipops,
and bobbing for apples...
with a little help for big hands to get them to the stems...

The kids had an awesome time, especially with their lollipops and apples.
Katy and Ellie have a clothes swapping thing going with their playdates. Katy in particular loves to wear Ellie's clothes. She kind of sneakily peed in her cat outfit so she would have an excuse to wear Ellie's fairy costume. That's what Mama got for saying no Katy couldn't change into Ellie's dress up clothes! If only Katy would use her powers of the mind for good and not for evil!
The kids then settled down to try to have dinner, although after all that candy, it was a bit of a lost cause for Katy.

The kids did enjoy the frosting off the pumpkin cookies and
(very melted) ghost cupcakes.

Carving Jack
Katy was very excited and proud to help Dada carve our giant pumpkin this year. The poor girl had been having a difficult morning, like all the three-year-old kids in DB detoxing from their sugar highs the day before. We had carrying on and screaming, but carving the pumpkin with Dada really cheered her up and got her back on an even keel.

This year, being a Princess, Katy did NOT like pulling out the seeds. "Yuk," she said.

But she tried to be really helpful anyway, by holding the pumpkin steady for Daddy.
And this year, Katy did a pretty good job of drawing Jack's face...

And she handled the job of pulling out Jack's eyes with aplomb.

Princess Lolly
Katy's classmate Didi invited us to her Church Not-Scary-Halloween Party at Siena Park. The theme was Candyland, which we loved, as Katy has loved playing Candyland with Dada since he got her the game this past Summer in Minnesota. Katy chose to be Lolly of course, since she is dressed in pink.
Tia spent the week sewing lollipops to Katy's ballerina skirt, and Mama glued Fruit Mentos and M&Ms onto a tiara and wand. Mama spent the entire week warning Katy not to eat any of the candies on her tiara and wand as they had glue on them.

Mama also spent a fruitless week scouring the shops of Hong Kong for a giant lollipop, but no joy there. Bizarre considering it is Halloween! Anyways, we had to make do with a candy wand instead.
It was a really well organised and super fun "alternative" Halloween party. Katy loved making her own cookies topped with...candy of course. She went back for second helpings of pink and purple frosting.

And she loved her first taste of Nerds. Pink of course.
We ran into Katy's old school friend Marcel, who was a tiger.
And Katy loved fishing. All that Minnesotan lake time stood her in good stead.
Except she kept trying to do the jerk that you do with real fishing and we had to explain that doesn't work when it's a magnetic fish!!
She was very motivated to fish well and caught three, because one of the prizes was a choice of groovy pink rings.
Then, with much encouragement from Dada, Katy took part in the Fancy Dress Parade. Katy is not one to embrace new people, crowds, and new situations. So we were really really proud of her enthusiastic participation. She loved watching all the other kids get up on the stage, and she cheered and applauded them with gusto.

When it was Katy's turn, she even did a little twirl to show off the back of her costume.
And she tried hard to be brave when it was time for the competition line up.
All her efforts were rewarded when she won a prize for her costume.
But what she loved the best was pulling off all her lollipops on her skirt and giving them out to all the other children.
Including Sam, a really gorgeous Dinosaur who is also in her class at Green Pastures.
We were really proud of the way she enthusiastically shared all those lollipops on her skirt!
Here she is hamming it up with Didi.
And saying thank you to Roberto, who did a fantastic job MC'ing the fashion show - not an easy task with a very large group of kids from 1 to 14 years old.
When we got home, Katy thanked Tia very much for all the hard work she had put into making her costume, and proudly showed off her prize.

It was a wonderful Halloween experience for Katy at 3.
