Teacher's Pet

This will be our last week at "school". Katy will not be continuing at her Montessori playgroup, Bumblebees, or at her Mandarin play centre Discovery Mind Kindergarten (DMK). So it will be time to say goodbye, which is a little sad. Katy has finally gotten to the stage where she actually looks forward to class and is happy to go, although she is still a little clingy if it is Mama who drops her off.

Miss Debbie, Miss Jeannie and Miss Kartini at Bumblebees
Jing Laoshi at DMK
and Ying Laoshi at DMK!
Our plan for now is to send Katy to Green Pastures Kindergarten in Tung Chung, which is a local Cantonese Kindergarten. We really want her to have the opportunity for full immersion in Chinese, even if it is Cantonese (we would prefer Mandarin). This is an exciting and big step for all of us!

When we get back in August, we plan to send Katy to the new Montessori kindergarten for some summer classes, and she will also have some Watercolour and Arts and Craft classes with her beloved friend Jonah. The new Montessori school is so gorgeous and we like the Montessori philosophy. I think it suits Katy a lot. But now, we think it is more important for her to have full immersion Chinese. She understands everything and she can speak when she wants to. But she just doesn't want to. She really needs a fun Chinese environment for consistent periods of time, and other kids her age and older who speak Chinese around her, in order to encourage her to use her Chinese.

So Dada and Mama and Tia will be learning lots of Cantonese too come Septembers!
