Making friends

Katy has been interested in "making friends" since we were in Singapore and she became fascinated by eight-year-old Safiya from New Zealand at the pool. She told Mama "I want her to be my friend Mama, how? How?". Before that, we've been teaching her to be polite and introduce herself to people "Hello, my name is Katy, what's your name".

Katy can be fickle. Sometimes she will really take a shine to a new kid. More often than not, she will be too shy or uninterested. Especially if we try to encourage her to become friends...

On the way home from Stanley, after a very long day, and a little tired grumpiness, this little girl started following Katy around adoringly. At first Katy was a little uncertain what to make of this. But then, she smiled and took the little girl's hand saying "we have to hold hands". After introductions assisted by parents, Tilly and Katy happily promenaded hand in hand pulling the car seat back and forth while we waited for a hire car.
