Katy's vocab keeps building. We are amazed at the leaps she makes in language. She's quite chatty with us all now although still pretty shy and wordless in public. Yesterday, she declared "I don't want to have a bath", which I think is her longest self spouted sentence so far. And with prepositions and all!
She also seems to be differentiating now between English, Mandarin and Tagalog. The other day, coming out of Mandarin class, she said "Init", which is Tagalog for "hot". I wasn't sure what she was saying. She's stopped saying her funny nonsense words for the most part but sometimes we are not sure what she is saying. Well, after repeating "init" a few times and rejecting all my guesses, I asked her "is this Tagalog?" and she replied "ask Naan". Katy calls Julie Naan. I still wasn't sure what Katy was saying or if she was speaking Tagalog or English, but later when we met Naan and Tia and I asked what "init" means, they confirmed it means "hot" and Katy said "init - ask Naan" in a very satisfied "I told you so" voice. Since then, she has done the same thing - where she starts singing a Tagalog song and I don't know the words and she says "ask Tia".
The other thing Katy is now doing is using words learned in one context in a completely different but correct context. Will try to remember to jot it down next time she does this.
