Every kid...

...loves playing with the garden hose. This brought back a lot of great memories for Daddy and Mummy and we hope it brings a smile to you too. Katy was absolutely delighted!! to be playing out on the patio with the garden hose for the first time in her life!

We think Katy might be an engineer like Mummy's friend Lynne, since she is always so serious about trying to figure out how everything works, like why water is coming out of the hose and what happens if you stick your finger in the hose.

Katy was having such a great time, she didn't even blink when the inevitable slip and fall happened!

Our little princess is a tough fun-loving minx and she brings a lot of joy and laughter to our lives.

Princess Pia's Party

On Monday 26th May, Katy attended Pia's birthday party. The babies had a ball and Katy was especially entranced by the bubbles Auntie Grace blew.

Now they are all 1, it seems they are perpetually on the move and perpetually hungry. We will never forget the hilarious sight of our babies trailing after Pied Piper Auntie Adeline carrying a plate of teddy puffs. Then they set upon the plate like a pack of hungry kittens, as though we never feed them!

They had all just finished a great big bowl of yummy risotto!!

Katy did Mummy proud by then proceeding to lap up the teddy puffs OFF THE GROUND like a real Kitty Kat!

Our 2008 babies really are little piglets!

Playdate with Jonah

A new scrapbooking store has opened up in DB! This got Mummy and Aunty Adeline very excited. So Thursday 22 May was the first of many future scrapbooking playdates for Katy. First we went to the store, which was an Aladdin's Cave of goodies for Katy and Jonah to explore. Then it was off to Jonah's place for lunch and investigating Jonah's toys.

Katy loves to pat Jonah's fuzzy head...

...and push him around on his new scooter. What good friends they are!

Katy's First Birthday Party

Katy started Saturday 17 May excited with a pink tiara and a beautiful smile...

and ended the day tired with a
beautiful smile
and a pink bike.

In between, she partied hard with 11 pals, busily exploring a new rocking seahorse, whale seesaw, bouncy castle and pink bike, and doing some fingerpainting in between bites of banana and pear popsicles and wheatless, eggless, milkless carrot cake.

Busy Mummies and Daddies sipped Katy Royales made with prosecco and raspberry or strawberry and stole bites of Krauel's Famous Enormous Minnesotan Stuffed Salmon (yes, you can stuff a salmon and yes, it does taste good!), very hot Frank's Red Hot chicken wings and prawns while chasing babies around. Actually I shouldn't say babies anymore, they really are toddlers already!

Walking talking living doll

Katy has been "walking" for a few weeks now, staggering 2-3 steps towards us with lots of encouragement. The last few days, she has really embraced walking. She loves to just stand up in the middle of nowhere and start walking to a place rather than to a person, taking 6-8 steps. She is also looking a lot steadier and more upright now. She thinks she's pretty clever!

We haven't managed to catch this on video yet, but here is a photo of Katy dancing in the middle of the room without any support, which gives you an idea of what she can do now. It looks like she is doing some kind of Balinese or Hawaiian dance...Mummy needs to buy her a proper costume!

Popsicle Girl

Katy's Mummy has always believed that birthdays should be celebrated for at least 2 weeks so you have the week leading up to the day, the day itself, and then the week after the big day. So we have been preparing for Katy's birthday with busy shopping trips and baby food and activity experiments for about a week now.

One of our successful experiments is...baby popsicles!! Katy loves them! They are made from pureed banana and pear, with just a bit of grape juice. They're not a very attractive colour, but Katy doesn't care! These are a real treat for Katy, especially since her draconian parents won't let her have chocolate or sugar or juice until she is 3! (except maybe on birthdays...)

Katy is almost 1!

Wow what a wonderful, happy and busy 12 months we have had! We can hardly believe that our beautiful little angel will soon be one!

Time has really flown and we apologise a thousand times a thousand for our laxness in staying in touch and, most of all, getting photos of Katy out to all of you who keep asking (especially the grandmothers!).

As our gift to ourselves and you for Katy's First Birthday, we have set up this blog to commemorate and celebrate Katy's first 12 months. This was inspired by Olivia Hill's awesome blog, which Olivia's Mommy, Debbie, has faithfully and diligently tended since Olivia was born. It is such a wonderful keepsake for the Hill and Ma families. We wish we had done it too.

Oh well.

Better late than never.

We are really looking forward to sharing Katy's 2nd year with you now in real time, so, in the interests of moving forward, let's jump straight into NOW - which is the lead up to Katy's First Birthday. "When we get a chance..." we will add photos for a recap of Katy's first year.
